Minister Job Description

The Minister of the Manhattan Church of Christ must be knowledgeable of the Scriptures and be able to teach, preach and equip the Church for discipleship and service. The Minister must be devoted to Jesus and be passionate about teaching others to live and grow as disciples. The Minister will work with the elders and other leaders in the congregation to equip members for the work of ministry. The pulpit will be shared with the other men in the congregation and guest speakers. Other responsibilities will be assigned to the minister based on his experience, attributes, and interests.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plans, shares and instructs men of the congregation on pulpit preaching methods, techniques, and sermon planning.
  2. Work with adult and youth coordinators on lessons/activities/event plans
  3. Works with the campus ministry.
  4. Availability to nurture the Church.
  5. Works with the elders to develop sermons/themes which are consistent with mission statement and direction of elder and provide coaching, teaching, mentoring and feedback to the sermon team.


  1. Experience as a Christian/Bible Instructor at a Church of Christ (preferred) School (Secondary, College or University) or equivalent experience as decided by the elders.
  2. Member of the Church of Christ.
  3. Strong faith and commitment to serving the Lord as a minister and evangelist of God’s word with a love for educating, mentoring, and family.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to lead Bible studies, organize activities, prepare sermons, and provide leadership in a Christ-like manner.
  5. Preferred Ministry/Bible degree(s).
  6. A proven evangelism and ministry track record with experience in missions (preferred).
  7. Proficiency in technology including the use of social media and communications.
